Lionel Messi signs for Reading

Lionel Messi, the greatest footballer of all time, has signed for Reading FC.

Lionel Messi has joined Championship club, Reading FC, on a free transfer after leaving childhood club Barcelona. He was unhappy there and, at the beginning of the week, handed in a transfer request. He left the club, which he had been at since he was 13, and was swooped up by Reading FC, the 7th oldest club in England.
Messi said: 'I am very excited for this new challenge here in Reading. It will be very different for me but I think I will enjoy it here!'
Manager Mark Bowen said: ' It is amazing that we have the opportunity to have such a great player in our midst and hopefully he can help us get into the Premier League. I am really happy that we managed to pick him up! I have had a chat with Leo and he has told me he is up for the challenge, which is always great to hear. The team are geared up and we are really ready for the new season!'
It wasn't only the players that were happy though. Understandably, the Reading fans were absolutely ecstatic to be able to see the greatest player of all time play for Reading.
We spoke to one young fan who was beaming for the whole interview. He said: 'It's really amazing to be able to watch Lionel Messi play and even better that it's for my club! I think we now have a really good chance of getting into the Prem!'
Of course, Barca fans will be upset to see their talisman and captain, who they watched since he was 13, finally leave the club.
