The perpetrator of the Aurora massacre, James Eagan Holmes, is set to be released for a few days. "He's earned a few days of fun" the judge declared.

In a statement issued on behalf of Holmes, he stated that the death of 12 people, including himself and "the four little kids inside our theater", was "the worst crime I have ever committed…"

The defendant said that the only regret he has is that he did not kill others and, in particular, "anyone that would argue his evil and criminal actions were not the result of a deeply disturbed mind" and that, "in this moment of sorrow, I would like to say a very sorry, sorry, but not sorry to the victims' families, whom we all love, and I'll leave it at that."

"I can't wait," his mother Karen Holmes told the Aurora Morning News after seeing him.

Judge Bunning told Holmes' sister, Jennifer Holmes, that they had a "beautiful future" ahead, adding that her brother has a bright future for the rest of his life and that he is "fearless of the future."

"What a wonderful young man! You gave me a lot of hope and this one has lifted my spirits right to the top." wrote his mother, in a separate e-mail. "He is going to a great school, getting good grades. And I'm proud to call him a hero. That's a boy who will go far! This case was a joy for all of us and a real thrill to have our case heard, which was no small feat in itself. Today was another highlight of the Christmas season, not only for us but for all of us who were there for all of it. And a moment of reflection on how important our lives are."
She added: "As Holmes heads out onto the Kinoplex, some in the audience are still in shock and mourning the loss of their loved ones.

"They've been very shaken and devastated by this whole ordeal and it's very difficult to talk about right now it's very, very hard to talk about because a lot of this is in the past," Holmes's mother said tearfully outside the packed court house.

"My mind remains on him," she said. "When his time is up, he will get the credit he deserves in terms of what he did and what we have all been through. I was just going to ask God to give me some peace, peace of mind over these next few days because I just can't see this going to be the way my life is ever going to be again."
"He's a great kid. I don't think he's been the same since the shootings. He's been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder and we've had to support him," the victim's father said.

The Judge also declared this:

"There are few things that have made me happy in my life. One is getting to hear my children speak. Another is listening to my own mother speak. I have always loved the beauty of the sound of a lady's voice. And I am so happy to have such a lovely, gracious, sweet-tempered, compassionate, and sensitive son in my life! The world has always been a lovely place to me ... and it will be for ever, and ever, and ever! I wish everyone who has been affected by the tragedy that happened in Aurora, Colorado last weekend the happy news that they will all get to spend some time with their loved ones who are so much in need of comfort. The only good thing that this horrible tragedy has done is to remind us that we don't want to be alone. And we all deserve that in our lives."
The judge went on to offer his sympathies to "all the victims, families and friends of the Aurora community...I know that you would want to hear me tell you the good news". But it seemed that the majority of people, especially in Denver, felt a touch of sadness as they watched the news.
And if there was an exception, the judge was quick to put it away by offering to play "one of the best games" he could think of, something the Colorado Bureau of Investigation called, "the most sophisticated and detailed shooting game designed for a mass shooter".

The judge declared the release "good news by any measure". Holmes appears to be very pleased with himself. Holmes appears to be very happy, and not on drugs or drinking a bunch while in prison. On his sentencing day, he was asked, "Do you want to take drugs or do you want to drink?"

It looks like they decided for him to drink.
Robert Holmes will return to the Kinoplex tomorrow night and will be interviewed by a live interviewer. He will also receive an award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The Judge in these trials has become "his friend" as many others have recently written. Many in these courts were "born to" the judge and many more have been created with this kind of judge in their hearts.
"The courtroom has become a theater. The jury has become an actress. The judge has become the judge.... A court is the theater, theater an actor....

"A juror is not a member of the society, a society membership; an juror is a member of the court.... The juror is in his/her own right a member of the court"

Holmes is released on June 17th, and is slated to move on to his mother's house.
